Max Brenner with Mikki in Melbourne

I'm not posting photo's in chronological order.. but I don't think that matters? My girl and I made two trips to Melbourne (weekend before last) to catch-up with our friend Mik visiting from Perth. We hadn't seen her in 7 years! For our very last catch-up, Sunday Sep 21st, we had morning tea at Max Brenner (Melbourne Central). First we picked Mikki up from the Holiday Inn where she was staying with her husband (down here on business). Our time together that Sunday was so short because we had to leave just after 12 noon and head back home which was at least 85km's away. My girl had her brother's naming day/1st birthday celebrations at 2pm at a city/waterfront restaurant.
The morning after our Italian dinner in Melbourne. My girl had Belgian Waffles with a generous amount of melted milk chocolate (the photo doesn't do it justice). Mik and I helped ourselves to several tastes of this as there was plenty for everyone to feel 'waffle-ised'.. my girl didn't feel like she was missing out. These were around $12? I didn't pay extra for icecream but my girl thanked me for it because she said she couldn't have managed it.Because it was still 'morning' I struggled with the idea of having anything sweeter than my two sugars skinny decaf, quarter strength latte. However, I did order a 'Chocolate Lick' as it's the cheapest thing on the menu and I thought it'd satisfy any craving I mustered in that chocolate-environment. (I brought in some sushi for brunch actually which I was happier to eat). The Chocolate Lick (pot of melted milk chocolate) was too sweet for me. It's about a 1/3 cup capacity. I probably could have tackled it better in the afternoon hours?
One of the raw salmon rolls belonged to my girl. I also had squid inari and an unagi (eel) roll.

The first time we tried the Chocolate Lick's they were $2.00. Tiffany and I noticed the 10 cent price hike to $2.10 last time we were there. She recently expressed curiosity about what the price would be now? Had it increased again since the last time we were there?

$2.20!! Do they have no shame?

Anyway, I think I had three 'licks' of the Lick and the rest Mik used to put into her Iced Coffee..(that was almost a tongue-twister). Mikki's Iced Coffee, surprisingly was a 'custom order' as they didn't have it on the menu!? With some 'quick thinking' they based the Iced Coffee on one of their 'Frappe' recipes... and it was $7.00. Mik told them it was the best Iced Coffee she'd ever had and they should put it on their menu. Iced Coffee, including Mocha beverages and other variations appear on American Max Brenner menu's.. as it happens. Why not in Melbourne?
Both my girl and I had a taste and it was, I have to say "very superior". When Mikki plonked the melted chocolate (from the 'Lick') into her very Icey Coffee, it immediately hardened into little chocolate nuggets (not pictured). You can own one of these exact same, ceramic 'Drink Me' tumblers, they're available to purchase in packs of two for $40.00 (gulp)! 'Hug Mug's' are $25.00 each (they come with a saucer too).
'Hayden' (our waiter) mocked me more than once about my latte (below).. jesting that it wasn't a real latte.. being decaf...and quarter strength..and skinny and all of that. When he presented it to me he said something like "and here's your fake latte Ma'am".
And with permission.. here's Hayden. He volunteered to take photo's for us.. and was an all-round excellent coffee-bitch. Ok..ok... sorry, sorry... but I'm sure he would be laughing if he was reading this. We were glad to have him wait on us.Too much sugar turns you into a ham.

This was my girl's thick, (dark) hot chocolate with crunchy waffle balls.. it was around $5.50 from memory and the three of us couldn't even finish it (it's seriously intense.. especially if there are warm Belgian waffles on the table and other things to try). Hayden said normally the waffle balls were stirred into it but he liked to sprinkle them on top for visual effect.
So we left Melbourne.. and I drove my girl (almost) straight to her party, but we stopped a minute or two from the restaurant to catch an 'afar' glimpse of a ship that is in port at the moment called the 'Doulos'

We had three representatives/Christian volunteers from this ship two Sundays ago at church. This is a 'stock' photo (below).. but the two after that were one's I quickly snapped on the way to dropping my girl off. This is our waterfront/bay area (my photo). My girl was keen to get to her party, so I took a photo of her waiting in our parked car behind me ;) The place where I dropped her off was directly opposite the ship, but I didn't park the car and take more 'close-up' snaps as I plan on going for a proper tour of the ship with my girl. The Doulos is a 94 year old ship (two years younger than the Titanic) run by volunteers who commit to two years of service apparantly. They have the "largest floating bookshop" on board (used to be a swimming pool) and wherever they 'dock' they run programs and mini-conferences that cost between $5 and $20. Eg. one of the things they recently had was a women's morning tea with a guest speaker for $15 (morning tea included). There are even programs for teenagers but their brief says "aim to get your hands dirty"?? 45 min tours of the ship cost $10 per adult and $2 for children aged between 2 and 16. There's an "International Cafe" on board .."Sip a suberb cup of coffee on deck while Doulos crew members share about ship life and the extraordinary stories of God's work around the world". I read somewhere recently that the ship will be retired next year. But at church I thought I heard them say 2010?

Anyway, after I dropped my girl off, she'd left behind (on purpose) her drink on the passenger seat beside me.. It was a rip-off $4.50 'mini-bar' Coke from the Holiday Inn that Mikki had given her.
My girl (later that night) brought home a really big slab of mudcake with cream and blue icing, enough for three people easily. It weighed over half a kilo, no exaggeration. When it was still wrapped well in foil I kept dropping it from a height onto the dining room table to hear the loud thud it made. It was like dropping a bag of flour or something. My 'Myth Busters' style of experimenting (backed up with immature giggles from me) didn't do the cake any favours visually.

Hair and nails done at last...

How are these for some 'foodie themed' nails? Nah.. not mine! I don't think those strawberries, grapes and peaches could withstand the treatment I'd give them during the course of any ordinary week. These nails seem to have a real 'stick-on' look too.

At work last week.. or was it the week before? Any-who.. I was signing up a couple of new members but I happened to notice the state of my nails and hands as I was doing my obligatory writing. Quite frankly, I felt embarrased. Since having my daughter 13 years ago, I just can't grow a set of nails. I may grow one or two or three nails out of ten.. but they inevitably break/chip/tear. So I generally have short, unkempt nails. I take after my Mum (in physical features), all except for the hands and feet! Those are my Dads! Wide feet and short fingers that gain weight with the rest of me. I'm loathe to say 'sausage fingers' which is a term I read in a prescribed high school text "Playing Beattie Bow"... (and I hated it -and book reports in general if you can believe that- because I knew the term 'sausage fingers' applied to me).

So at work I realised just how much my hands are on display. I have a pen in my hand 95% of the time when doing my job and clients are in close proximity to me. I notice people looking at me and I'll sometimes (for eg.) get compliments re: a pair of earrings I'm wearing. Being 'checked out' or 'examined' is part of being in the public eye. I myself examine check-out chicks, bank tellers, hairdressers and the like. I notice hair, make-up, clothes, nails/hands. I know not everyone is like me and it's not like I'm a clothes horse or a fashion guru, but I'm always interested in how people present themselves (thus I always try to make sure I present myself well because it makes me feel good about myself). I sometimes get inspiration from someone's 'look'.

So, today.. at last.. I finally had my hair trimmed, or 'style cut'? (about 3 to 4 weeks overdue) and I coloured my hair (did the roots). It would have been better to have done all of this prior to my friend from Perth arriving, but I didn't have the money then. Tonight after the colour-job I dried my hair off in the bathroom.. no styling products.. and barely any brushing, just the hairdryer. I then snapped a couple of shots to show you the difference between my hair on Saturday night (with the 'girls' out to dinner ~below~) and now. I also took a photo of my new gel nails with french manicure.

This is a 'sneak peak' of a photo from last Saturday night! My friend from Perth is the other blonde next to me! I hope she doesn't mind that I used this photo (with her startled look -lol) for the purposes of showing you my hair?! The length is obscured.. it was quite long..and flat because of the weight of it. I pinned my long fringe back and it reveals darker roots.

Bathroom mirror shot tonight in nightie. Pic of leopard on nightie with the words "Wild at Night" underneath. Describes me to a 'T' because I struggle to get to bed at a decent hour.

And here are my new nails. This is also inadvertantly an update on my (treated) carpal tunnel hand. See the palm of my hand, closer to the wrist? (Bottom left hand corner of photo). That's where my hand was cut open for surgery. Looks pretty good 3.5 months on. The skin is a tad pinker than the rest.

New Member Hostess

Two blog posts in one day! This will be a short one too. My WW leader emailed me over the weekend and asked if I'd work some overtime (ie. a third meeting this week). She was asked to be the 'fill-in' leader for a large meeting tonight and apparantly that meeting has no "New Member Hostess" ie. "me". So my role does have an official title (news to me). I quite happily agreed, so my girl (who has never been to the new location) and I will head to WW tonight. I actually feel excited about it because I'm needed in a professional capacity. For someone like me, a Mum who's been out of the paid workforce for a number of years, it affirms my strengths/abilities and value for what I can offer/bring to a WW meeting. My leader is very good at affirming me every week. Be it in front of new members ("This is my wonderful helper Maria" etc), or behind the scenes or even on days when I don't see her (through personal contact). I am really blessed in this regard. In fact, in light of all the "God threads" in my circumstances, I've been considering starting an online journal (another blog) to track my blessings because they just keep coming thick and fast. God is showing me he is with me in all the details of my life.. which is a blessing in itself because it beats not hearing from God! Keeping a record of the good things is something I'd recommend to anyone reading this, because you can so easily forget these important details of your life with each passing week and month. Some days or weeks you may feel you can't write a single thing down, but at any time you can always go back and remember/reflect on the good in your life.
Future post: I'm in the throes of sorting through photo's from our Melbourne weekend with my friend from Perth. Stay tuned :)

Email sent today

To Customer Services (Accor hotel group),

I am writing to offer you very important feedback.

Firstly I'd like to say that I've been receiving the 'Accor' email/newsletters for some time and have loved receiving them. They have been a source of exciting and helpful information.

I love travel and am particularly interested in the Accor group of hotels.

My most recent hotel stay was with Hotel Ibis in Glen Waverly, Melbourne. I found the staff to be outstanding and the service was wonderful.

Yesterday, I had a couple of missed calls on my mobile phone. When I phoned back I was told it was to do with Accor and 'Advantage Plus' membership.

The two missed calls yesterday were from the number 03 *******, the last one being at 2:09pm.

I phoned this number back and the gentleman who I spoke with at 2:22pm said I should just wait for whoever it was to call me back again. I was curious about the calls because I often enter competitions. I hoped I'd won something to be honest.

The 03. ******* number did call me back today at 11:58am. The man who made the call was not the man I spoke with yesterday.

He started a spiel about 'Advantage Plus' membership without actually saying it was 'Advantage Plus'.

I was polite and listened to everything he had to say. It sounded all wonderful, but this is what I told him in response:

I mentioned I was in receipt of the Accor newsletters/emails which I always read with interest and enthusiasm. I also said I was aware of the benefits of 'Advantage Plus' and it did seem great and something I'd be interested in because I had particular interest in the Accor hotel group. I shared with him how friends of mine had stayed at the 'Sofitel' on Collins Street (Melb) and they loved it and it was my goal to stay there one day too. Also, being a foodie and having a food blog/website, I am keen to dine at 'Cafe La' and experience/review it.

But then I went on to confide that as much as I liked his $289 proposition with 50% off certain restaurants (when two people dine) and a free night at an Accor hotel.. all of that.. I was now experiencing marital separation and financially it just wasn't an option for me on my own.

I know I didn't have to tell this 'voice' on the phone my circumstances, (and in hindsight, I shouldn't have) but perhaps I viewed 'Accor' as a trusted and professional brand? I wanted to be polite and not make him think I was just brushing him off and not appreciative of the call. I've always been aware of the Advantage Plus program for as long as I've been receiving the newsletters. I even brought home an A.P. pamphlet from the Ibis hotel.

The response from your Accor representative was:

"Well aren't you going to get money from the divorce"? As blunt as that. Verbatim.

I was horrified! What a most inappropriate thing to say!

I replied "I'm separated, I'm not divorced!"

And his response was "Isn't that the same thing? Separation? Divorce? It's the same thing isn't it?"

I was so upset, I just ended the call by hanging the phone up.

How can someone representing Accor take such a callous and personally intrusive approach?

The fellow had mentioned that he lived in *******, where I live in ******* (I don't know if this is true)? He mentioned this in the context of our local Mercure hotel and how I would be eligible to receive 50% off at ****** restaurant and 30 other restaurants in Melbourne. This is the only other 'identifying' information I have from this man.

To reiterate, the call is registered on my mobile phone as: 11:58am... My mobile number is: ********** which is the number he reached me on today, Tues, Sept 23, 2008.

I would appreciate someone getting back to me about this via a phone call and also a written apology.

Yours sincerely,

Maria ******

3 capital cities in 3 weeks

Gosh, what a busy weekend coming up. Yesterday I was blessed to have a latte with a friend. Today I need to get my haircut and colour it between now and Saturday. I do it myself at home.. the colouring part I mean.

What I'm most excited about is I have a very special friend coming from Perth, W.A. on Saturday! She's tagging along on her hubby's business trip and they're staying at a hotel in the CBD. Her hubby will be whisked away almost immediately Saturday afternoon and heading to the football with clients -but hopefully just before he goes, my girl and I will arrive! We plan to say hello and touch base with friends hubby and then get ready for our planned dinner.

I was given the privilege of finding/booking our dinner venue. After researching plenty of places in (Melbourne) CBD, to cut a long story short, I chose a restaurant in Malvern, near my old stomping ground of Armadale (I used to live in Kooyong Road there). Stay tuned for photo's!

I have also been officially appointed mini-bar-filler.. as in supplier of snacks for back at the hotel, after dinner (which I'll be kindly reimbursed for). This is the kind-of thing I love.. being a food 'buyer'. Too many things to choose from. Last night I dashed into the supermarket for cash and said to my daughter "Stay in the car, I'm just getting money out"! 15 minutes later I came out.. after tearing myself away from wedges of Ashgrove wasabi cheese and the heavily stocked dip section of Safeway (Woolworths). I was in the throes of mini-bar shopping. It was the double cheese and leek crackers on special that got me going. Tiffany knows how more-ish they are! ;)

So we'll be having a 'late one' Saturday night, but returning Sunday to do the "Melbourne Central" thing. My friend is mad-keen on going to Max Brenner (chocolate heaven) after seeing pics on my blog. We'll be having morning tea and lunch and then my girl and I have to part company with our W.A. friend who will be heading off to stay with another friend for a couple of days. I also have to get my girl to a local waterfront-restaurant by 2pm She's been invited to her (half)brother's 1st birthday and naming ceremony and will be going home with her Dad for the evening.

School holidays start here after tomorrow! My girl has also been invited to 'Party no. 1' being a birthday BBQ for her brother's actual birthday (the official celebrations follow on Sunday afternoon as I mentioned before). Our two weeks of school-holiday-time will most certainly start with a bang but then will need to be toned down (financially) as we're both heading interstate soon! Two different states actually. And I'm simply amazed at how this has all come about.

My girl was sure she wasn't going to camp this year (being Canberra). I was in agreement with her about it because last years camp to Adelaide was a bit of a flop. Anyhow, less than two weeks ago I kept being asked and asked to "please write the teacher a letter" re: "staying home from camp". One evening I finished the letter and handed it to my girl, who then promptly found a notepad and started writing a pro's and con's list. For and Against camp. This had me puzzled. Neither of us had entertained the idea of her attending. It was, I thought, a 'done deal' that she wasn't going. Anyway, to cut a long story short.. she's going. She changed her mind and the "not going" letter was replaced with a signed permission form and payment, being the princely sum of $30 only this year.

Then, while riding the wave of this spontaneity train, I suddenly wondered if I could do anything while my girl was away? Last year I desperately wanted to go somewhere but after buying my girl a secondhand mobile phone for the trip + phone credit and paying for the camp etc - I was stuck at home with scanty rations of everything (we'd also only just moved and were trying to find our feet). Fast forward to this year and I wondered about popping up north to see my sister in Brisbane? And to cut another long-ish story short, my brother-in-law who works for that domestic airline, just recently qualified for discounted "staff fares". He can nominate 3 family members to receive discounted fares too and I'm one of them. When I searched online, the cheapest airfares I could find were about $150 each way to Brisbane, nigh on $300 for the return trip (which is still a good deal in my book), however with 3 weeks notice, I couldn't have made that possible. As it happens, I've paid one third of that. It's booked and paid for and a done deal. I've even organised my transfers to Melbourne airport. Our local airport bus isn't economical at all..and they have a limited timetable (ie. I wouldn't make it home when I get back as I arrive back too late at night). I'd also have to factor-in taxi fares from the bus depot.

So in lieu of the local airport bus, I've booked a spot at an airport parking venue in Tullamarine, literally minutes from the airport. I've often used these kinds of places, where you drop your car off for the duration of your trip and they shuttle you to and from the airport as part of the service. For an extra fee they'll even wash your car and/or vacuum it and/or detail it and/or service it!

The way these interstate trips have come about.. I just couldn't have imagined it a couple of weeks ago. Everything just happened seemingly spontaneously and then it all fell together and loose ends were tied-up. Last time I was in Brisbane was in June last year, so it will be good to have some sister-time... albeit for 3.5 days because I want to make it back in time for work and be ready to pick the girl up from her interstate jaunt.

Re: School hol's, I've checked out the cinema timetables for the next week and have noticed two movies about teenage girls which I know my girl would enjoy. Not sure how we'll afford it. Anyway.. my tummy is grumbling and I need to make a move. Get me that haircut! I have a 'frequent flyer' card with my hairdresser and I'm up to the "$5 off" reward! There's a couple of sushi rolls with my name on them too.. I'm sure of it ;)

Flying high with flower power!

With permission, this is my sister Liz (two years younger than me). She is with her spouse who works for an airline (I'm mindful to keep identifying details out). They are at an airline "work do", being a 60's themed party. I thought his wig was great as well as their costumes in general. (I had more photo's passed onto me which feature all the other staff and spouses too, everyone did really well with the theme).

Wednesday Photo's.. and a French find!

Here's Phoebe, taking advantage of the morning sun. I don't open the (faulty) drapes fully to begin with because so much light comes in first thing in the morning. It's quite blinding! I've decided this post will be about random photo's, taken today. I did some op-shopping and was happy to get *three* needed baking dishes...but first some other photo's...

I have 5 prunes at breakfast with some peaches and psyllium husks. Nearly all prunes have preservatives added, but this 'Verity' unpitted 750gm pack is preservative free. I don't mind the pips as much as the preservatives. I have a clothes peg keeping the packet closed. My girls lunch for school. A sandwich on soy linseed bread, some Texas bbq 'Shapes' & a muesli bar full of nuts/fruit (New Zealand 'Nice n Natural' brand). And some chocolate milk. First time I've ever bought a 6 pack of milk for school lunch purposes. My girl hates fruit and will probably have small mouthfuls 2 or 3 times a year.. during summer?
Now I'm so pleased to announce that I landed myself a piece of PILLIVUYT french porcelain today!! (Pronounced: Pilly-VWHEAT says Martha Stewart's site. I used to think it was pronounced Pilly-vit going from a printed ad. I read years ago). I have admired the stuff from afar for more than 20 years and have never owned a piece. It's known for its exceptional quality, durability and toughness. .."The even-heating properties of Pillivuyt culinary porcelain ensure that you will have a perfectly baked crust every time. The non-porous, anti-stick glaze allows baked goods to lift easily out of the pan"... Today I came across a huge quiche/flan dish. I priced it at around 37 English pounds (new), which is almost $70 at the moment. I picked it up in near perfect condition for $4.75. Yes, less than $5.00! There are only some slight markings on the base which is unglazed.
I put a pen in the dish to give a better idea of how big it is.
I then picked up a set of four white dinner plates. I have usually stuck with plain white plates over the years (letting the food be the main attraction), but have opted for some black recently and green a few years ago. Trouble is, I have no more than 3 in those sets anymore because of breakages. These white plates were from Aussie TV cook Iain Hewitson's "Huey's Kitchen" range. I didn't know he had a range of tableware. Or maybe I just forgot. What I required was that the plates be suitable for microwave ovens and they apparantly are.

Here I am about to head out for a walk around 5pm today.

Spring

At the beginning of my walk this afternoon I took some photo's of flowers that are starting to bloom (in my front yard). I also played around with the new photo-editing program I have and changed the colour of one of the daisies.

If anyone would like to use these photo's (I'm not saying they are the ants-pants of flower photography.. I'm just covering my bases here), I have copies without the Foodie Wanderings hallmark. All I ask is that if they are public, then credit and a link back to me would be appreciated.

Playing online Scrabble again at the Pixie Pit (UK site), which I love to do.

"A New Normal"

My girl and I had a lovely Father's Day. She spent the entire day with her Dad, stepmum & brother & I (power)walked in the rain.. and (after showering/changing) met friends for a free latte and a movie ("Baby Mama"). Daughter left the house this morning with Father's Day presents but came home tonight with a few of her own, including -Exhibit A- the hat I'm wearing to the left. I'm a hat person, but I don't really wear them. Maybe it's because I want my head to be smaller before I don them confidently?
My latte started as a bowl of chicken & vegetable soup with toast. I didn't have a good feeling when the toast was garden variety 'Tip Top' white (nothing else was on offer). The soup arrived almost boiling hot.. and didn't look impressive. When it was cool enough for me to taste.. it was BLERGH! too salty! I got my money back and asked for a latte.. which they gave me on the house. The latte was very good! My friends enjoyed hot chocolate and a latte too.. however, I didn't take my camera, so no piccie's, sorry.
Does anyone else like Greg Kinnear as a romantic lead? He played the supporting role of Rob, a juice bar owner and love interest to the main character of Kate (Tina Fey). One of his juice bar smoothies was called "Orange you glad I didn't say Banana"!

As far as the storyline goes, Kate is told she has a one in a million chance of conceiving a baby because of her T-shaped uterus. She's a business woman and her biological clock is ticking so she signs on the $100,000 dotted line at a surrogacy centre. Along comes Angie (Amy Poehler).. rough around the edges (pregnancy drink of choice: "Red Bull") and ready to carry Kate's baby. The movie shows us a bit more however than the daily exchanges between Angie and Kate (under the same roof).

There is the romantic interest of Rob.. and a couple of funny roles played by Steve Martin (Barry.. being Kate's Tai-Chi-Organic-Mogul-Aura-Energised boss).. and Sigourney Weaver (the overly fertile Chaffee Bicknell, owner of the surrogacy centre "Chaffee and Bicknell".. lol). Surrogate Mum Angie's (common law) husband Carl (Dax Shepherd) is ok for a few white trash laughs too.

Not ground breaking comedy.. some of the humour is corny.. but it was ok. My friend and I agreed that the story could have gone on a bit longer too. The loose ends seemed to tie up rather quickly at the end.
The title of this post is a quote from Kylie Minogue interviewed tonight on 'Rove'. I struggle with Rove (the TV show) these days.. it's just too crude/crass for me.. but I was interested in what Kylie had to say. She was talking about where she was in life ("A New Normal") and I 100% identify.

Homemade pizza, Back to making You Tube videos.. pondering and grieving.

My prayer before I left for the laundrymat was please, please Lord let the laundrymat be quiet today. Saturdays is usually the worst day to go. But the sun was out and I think many took advantage of this.. and yippee.. I used 5 of the 6 machines there. Just aswell, the 6th one had animal fur inside and outside, it was shocking. Normally I don't have that many loads.. but because of lack of $1 coins last week, I had to leave some of last weeks things for this week. Over $20 later.. the laundry was done. Not before I wrote a note and left it hanging on one of the dryers.
I hate to follow the ugly note with food.. but that's where I'm up to.. Our dinner tonight. I found what looked like a proper pizza base at our local green grocer. I bought some of my favourite 'Screaming Seeds Dukkah' for $5.95.. but also picked up one of the bases for an excellent price I thought, $4.50 (This is a gourmet, foodie type place)...

Nonna J's Home Bake Italian Toppa Base

Though the finished pizza looks like it has a lot of cheese on it.. there really wasn't. The 'melted' look is deceiving. I put about 50grams of very thinly shaved tasty cheese on it and about 60-70grams of shredded mozarella. Then there was some shaved mild salami and hot sopressa too.. fresh mushrooms and green capsicum (I usually always buy red, but the supermarket didn't have any)! I left a section of the pizza without mushrooms/capsicum.. for guess who? I also didn't feel there was enough sauce on the base, so I dolloped on some Leggo's bolognese with mushrooms sauce I happened to have in the fridge.

This evening I made a 'sweet chicken casserole'.. from a recipe mix (shock, horror). It has pumpkin, carrot, onion and dried apricots in it. So that's in the fridge for tomorrow night or the next. I'll serve it with rice.

I'm thinking I need to get back into YouTubing more regularly (and reconnect with friends there). I stopped making regular video's a while ago because of software and computer problems that made the job very difficult for me. I made a 50 second video this evening with some footage taken on the new camera. I really love the creative editing process. Not that this has much fancy editing in it. Enjoy.. and I hope you all have a nice Father's Day.

For Serious Foodies: What kind of Omnivore are you?

Below is a list of 100 things that every good omnivore should have tried at least once in their life. The list includes fine food, strange food, everyday food and even some pretty bad food - but a good omnivore should really try it all. I have tried 63 out of 100.. and I'm disappointed the score isn't higher and that I crossed out 5 things. When push comes to shove, I'd try them all , except for maybe No.46.. which I think is a flat "no" for me.

Here’s what to do:

1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.
4) Optional extra: Post a comment here at www.verygoodtaste.co.uk linking to your results
.

The VGT Omnivore’s Hundred:

1. Venison
2. Nettle tea
3. Huevos rancheros (No but I have a Two Fat Ladies recipe for it)!
4. Steak tartare
5. Crocodile
6. Black pudding
7. Cheese fondue
8. Carp
9. Borscht
10. Baba ghanoush
11. Calamari
12. Pho
13. PB&J sandwich
14. Aloo gobi

TMI Tuesday

Isn't this like the best bread and butter pudding you've ever seen??!! It's one of the answers to my questions.

What is the one thing you would change about your body?

No secret there - to be in my healthy weight range above all. I'm getting there.

What is the one personality trait you would change?

Self-Control. I won't say I have no self control. I am getting better at being disciplined.. I need Gods help every day for this one. Always room for improvement.

What is the one thing about your job you would change?

Money.

What is the one thing about your home you would change?

I'd move.

What is the one thing about your Significant Other you would change?

Nothing.

Who is the one person you would poof out of your life and why?

I don't wish death upon anyone.. but for someone to circumstantially be removed from my life in ways other than death, I'd say my landlord because he shirks his responsibilities to me the tenant and makes a point of showing he doesn't care (which actually breaks my heart - makes me weary). I guess I should pray for him huh?

Who is the one person you would poof back in and why?

My Dad. Look ....a girl needs her Mum right? It's been 24 years since she was in my life. I always have dreams where she's back, but she leaves again.. or I'm in constant fear that she'll die again. Because of these dreams and the amount of time elapsed, I choose to leave the past in the past in that regard. I'll see her in heaven. I had Dad an extra 20 years. I would love for Dad to have those extra years that I knew he wanted desperately (he'd started his health kick) and for him to meet my husband. I'm sure they'd have things in common.

Are you afraid of bugs?

I guess you could say yes. I am quick to kill them.

Who makes the coffee at your house?

Me.

Do you have a spare coffee maker in the event your other coffee maker malfunctions?

I have herbal tea's in stock.

What do you like on your toast?

Philadelphia Light Cream Cheese...and some excellent quality Gravlax if available!

Be honest, do you screen your calls and let the people you don’t want to talk to go straight to voicemail?

I don't have voicemail by choice (I used to have it). I do have caller I.D. but can't remember the last time I didn't pick up the phone based on the number displayed. I've found that even if you take a dreaded call.. you never know what God could use it for. I'm learning not to put my head in the sand so much.. because often when I've stepped out of my comfort zone, God shows me something that I wouldn't have encountered, had I hidden myself away.

Five snacks I enjoy in a perfect non-weight gaining world:

* Excellent quality pizza
* (On a platter) Assorted fresh non-supermarket dips, seed mixes, artisan breads and superb olive oils
* Best quality cheese platter that would include Gorgonzola (from our local gourmet green grocer), Timboon gourmet feta.. something with sheeps milk, goats milk... cheddars and an array of soft cheeses.. served with crackers and perfect morsels of fruit, not just grapes
*Portuguese Custard Tarts
*Bread & Butter Pudding
